Serve as a Preceptor
Prairie AHEC needs the talents of Community Preceptors from all over North Texas. Preceptors are licensed physicians who allow a medical student or resident to visit their practice for a three to six week period and mentor them in the fine art of their specialty.
In order to be eligible, physicians must be board certified and licensed.
We primarily locate preceptors for UTMB and UNT Health Science Center students.
However, requests come from almost every medical school in Texas. Therefore, a high demand exists for preceptors in every county -- from Wichita to Collin County. We especially need preceptors who work with the underserved, or in rural areas.
Preceptor Benefits:
1) Preceptors who teach primary care 3rd year medical student clerkships may receive an appointment with UTMB as a Clinical Assistant Professor. This appointment is reviewed annually and renewed as you continue to serve as a UTMB preceptor.
2) Every hour of teaching time is equivalent to one hour of Category II CME. Each August, UTMB will send a letter listing the number of students you taught during the academic year and the number of hours you may self declare.
For more information on becoming a preceptor, contact the Prairie AHEC director.
